Into the West is a 1992 Irish family drama that blends realism and folklore to tell a powerful story about grief, identity, and freedom. 

The film follows two young Irish Traveller brothers, Tito and Ossie, who live with their grieving father “Papa” Riley in a Dublin housing project after the death of their mother. Their father has withdrawn from life, and the boys feel disconnected from both their Traveller heritage and the settled urban world around them. 

One day, a mysterious white horse named Tír na nÓg (from Irish mythology, meaning “Land of Eternal Youth”) appears. The boys believe the horse is connected to their late mother and a symbol of their cultural roots and spiritual freedom. 

When the horse is taken by a wealthy businessman, who wants to use it for racing, the boys steal it back and flee westward across Ireland. Their journey becomes both a literal and symbolic return to their heritage. As they travel toward the Atlantic coast, their father eventually follows, forced to confront his grief and rediscover his identity. 

Kneecap

Kneecap is a 2024 fast-paced Irish comedy-drama inspired by the real Belfast rap trio Kneecap. The film blends music, satire, and political commentary, centering on youth culture and the Irish language in Northern Ireland. 

Set in Belfast, the story follows the chaotic rise of the rap group Kneecap as they begin making bold, irreverent hip-hop in the Irish language. Their lyrics are provocative, political, and unapologetically rebellious, quickly drawing attention from authorities, politicians, and the media. 

What begins as underground mischief turns into a cultural movement. The trio use music to challenge policing, British authority in Northern Ireland, and the marginalization of the Irish language. As their notoriety grows, they face legal trouble, public backlash, and internal tensions but also become unexpected symbols of linguistic and cultural revival. 

The film mixes humor and heart, portraying the group not as polished activists but as messy, funny young men who stumble into becoming voices for a new generation.

• The Race class will have approximately 8000 vertical feet of climbing.
• The Rec class will have approximately 3500-4000 vertical feet of climbing.
• Juniors will follow the Rec course.

Silverton Splitfest

Ride new lines, make new friends, learn new backcountry skills, and demo the latest gear at this 13th annual gathering of the splitboard community in snowy Silverton, Colorado!

This year's event is scheduled for April 10th - 12th, 2026 at Kendall Mountain Recreation Area in Silverton, CO. Venture strives to create the same great sense of camaraderie as in years past, and are once again involving a host of different gear manufacturers, avy educators and split nerds to continue making Silverton Splitfest a true gathering of the splitboard community.
