Silverton’s many Attractions are as varied and diverse as the history and people of Silverton. We have a myriad of hiking trails through the San Juan Mountains, rafting on the Animas River, biking events such as the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, running events such as the Hardrock Hundred, music festivals such as the Great Western Rocky Mountain Brass Band Festival, riding the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (watch train video here), Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour (watch Mine Tour Video), Mayflower Gold Mill tour, jeeping and OHV riding in our backcountry, winter Skijoring (watch Skijoring Video), skiing at Silverton Mountain and Kendall Mountain, and the list goes on and on! 2014 is the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways program. The San Juan Skyway is in the southwest corner of the state and includes US Hwy 550 through Silverton. The Alpine Loop can be traveled in the summer and only by four wheel drive. For more information on all byways, go to www.tourcolorado.org.
